The Fahiako School Project

Status: Completed | Location: Fahiako, Akuapem South District, Eastern Region, Ghana

Fahiako is a farming community in the Akuapem South District of Ghana’s Eastern Region, where agriculture provides an important source of livelihood. Access to appropriate educational infrastructure is an important part of supporting the community’s children and strengthening opportunities for future development. Following an assessment of the community’s needs, together with recommendations from the District Assembly and community partners, Fahiako was identified as a priority site for the construction of a six-unit classroom block. Construction began in 2020 and was completed in 2022, providing the community with a new six-unit school facility. The school officially opened its doors in September 2023 and has remained in operation since then.The project was implemented in partnership with Africa’s People Africa’s Power e.V. (APAP), Germany, which provided the funding for the construction. It followed our community partnership model, with the District Assembly providing technical expertise and oversight, community members contributing labor and local knowledge, and APAP e.V. providing financial support.Through this collaborative approach, the project has helped strengthen access to educational infrastructure while promoting community ownership and sustainable local development.

The Fahiako teachers’ quarters

Status: On going | Location: Fahiako, Akuapem South District, Eastern Region, Ghana

Following the construction of the six-unit classroom block in Fahiako, retaining qualified teachers remained a challenge due to the community’s remote location, difficult road conditions, and lack of basic social amenities. To address this urgent need and ensure sustained quality education, we partnered with APAP e.V., Germany, the District Education Directorate, and local leaders to initiate the construction of a dedicated three-bedroom teachers’ quarters. Launched in February 2026 and set for completion in September 2026, this housing facility will allow teachers to reside directly on campus, fostering a stable, supportive environment for smooth teaching and learning. True to our community partnership model, the initiative combines financial backing from APAP e.V., technical oversight from the District Assembly, and local labor and expertise from the Fahiako community.
